How Can severe Dry Cough Along With Fever Be Treated?

I have been ill for five days coughing, low fever and I went to the doctor she gave me an inhaler . I am weak and continue to cough and my chest hurts. The fever did subside today however I still have deep cough and have difficulty sleeping or resting. What else can I do? I am the type of person who goes to work sick as I did last Friday. I am concerned because I am not getting better.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern

Your symptoms could be due to upper respiratory tract infection, viral or allergic bronchitis.
Take following advises for next 7 days.
-Take Cough syrup containing guaifenesin and dextromethorphan (Q tussin CF): 10 ml three times a day
- Tablet diomenic DA
-Drink plenty of lukewarm water
-Steam inhalation 3-4 times a day
-Strepsil throat lozenges (neem and honey flavor):take every 3 hourly
-Avoid cold beverages and exposure to pollutants

If the cough persists despite using the above medication then further workup would be required by consulting the pulmonologist.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
